On a budget of about $1000, any recommendations for receiver type? There are so many out there!

Well, what do you need it to do?

- what connections, and how many of each?
- pre-outs to add an outboard amp?
- flexible bass mgmt necessary?
- Audyssey?
- beefy amp?
- make coffee?
- good video processing? or 1080p pass good enough?

I won't have the magic bullet, but I don't think anyone will until you are a bit more specific.

If you don't know what to ask because that's how new you are, I really recommend going entry level, with pre-amp outputs as a minimum requirement to add an amplifier. Ok, check that, also to accept hi-def audio via HDMi.

For me, I need ability to matrix hi def bitstreams, because 1. have a 7.1 system 2. my bdp can only bitstream.
