I always wonder, whether it is possible to create individual audio tracks saved for left/right/center/rear channels from a 5.1 surround sound source via software?

Audacity

I'm not very proficient but you may check out Audacity. I use it to edit tracks and look for clippings.

When I look at 5.1 DTS music, it shows the different channels which you can segregate.

Extracting soundtracks from movies maybe another thing.
