Newbie question about Yamaha Musiccast MCX-2000

Hi, all. Hope you don't mind my intruding, but I'm at a bit of a loss.
My boss is something of an impulsive type, and the other day he told me he wants to revamp his home audio setup. His basic problem is that his entire music library is on the aforementioned Yamaha drive, and Yamaha apparently doesn't offer support for it any longer - it's been discontinued, I gathered. He's also lost a lot of the original CDs that he loaded onto the Yamaha, so there's no way to just rip them again to a new hard drive. At any rate, the problems are:
1. Extracting the files off of the Yamaha.
2. A replacement, uh, what, hard drive? (I'm really out of my depth here.)
3. Any other piece of equipment I might need to recommend he buy to enable surround sound on his HDTV/Blu-ray setup? (He said the budget can go as high as three grand.)

Any advice, recommendations, or - because I certainly don't want to be intruding, again, and I appreciate your time in advance - thread on this board or other site where I can just poke around and not bother you guys too much?

Thanks, immensely.
