Alright I have a new LG LED HDTV, a Sony STR-DE985 receiver, Infinity sound system and an Xbox 360. The cables I have are: a HDMI connecting the Xbox to the tv, component cables connecting tv to receiver and an optical cable from tv to receiver. My problem is that I get a picture but no sound through my sound system, I do get sound from my TV speakers. My question is I dont know where to hook the component cables(audio and video) or the optical cable in my receiver? Anything else I am missing? I had this set up at onepoint but we moved so I have to hook it up again. I am assuming that the sound from the xbox travels to the TV and then to the receiver and to the speakers. Any helpwould be great! Thanks Ryan

if the receiver has HDMI, hook all components up via HDMI to the receivers HDMI inputs, then one cable from the HDMI out to the tv, if the receiver does not have HDMI, hook all components up to the receiver via Component, then one component connection out from the receiver to the TV, then hook the devices audio up via coax, or optical, go into the setup menu and set which coax or optical in is what. hopefully this isn't confusing.

Check to make sure the appropriate digital audio input is enabled in the receiver's internal settings.

Since your receiver does not have HDMI, for best video, you do want to connect the HDMI cable of your XBox to the TV. However, connect the XBox's digital audio connection directly to the receiver. Almost all TVs only forward stereo from other devices, not multichannel surround-sound audio. They only forward multichannel audio from their internal tuners.
