Guys,

Looking for some recomendations. Room is going to be small 16 X 13. TV will be in the corner. Looking at 2 sets of bookshelves (main's and rears),center, and Sub. Going with a entry level receiver Pioneer VSX - 815K. Probably don't want to spend more than $1000 on speakers and am hoping a could get a smaller sub due to space constraints (or maybe even options without a sub???) Any recommendation help would be awesome.

This is my first foray into real home theatre (50/50) movies & music.

You could give a listen to Paradigm: fronts & rears - Atoms $199/pair and center - CC-270 $299. You could probably get at least 10% off of the Paradigm speakers at an authorized dealer. You'd have enough left over for a Hsu STF-1 at $299.

Another option:

3 BIC DV62CLR (left right center): $331.47 shipped
2 BIC DV62SIB Surrounds: $124.99 Shipped
1 Cadence 12" subwoofer: $229 shipped

Comes in under budget, and will blow you away.

Thanks guys - one other question

Jaxvon,

What about going with the DV62SIB's for Fronts and Rears and the CLR for Center?? Space is defnitely a issue. Also looking for a smaller sub that will perform.

That's also a viable option. The first option I gave would give you more output, but since your room isn't that big, 4 bookshelves and a center are just fine. The Cadence isn't that big, at only 16.5" (w) X 17.75" (d) x 16.75" (h). In its price range, I can find nothing better. It goes down pretty low too, so you should really get some awesome low frequency stuff on movies and music.

You'll have to budget for stands, wire, etc. too. But this is still a great system for not too much money.

No sub isn't really an option in this price range if you watch movies (well it IS, but not a good option).

Thanks

Jaxvon,

Really appreciate your input. I have a pair of DV62SIB's on the way so I will probably go that route as long as they appeal to me. Any input on receivers?? I am taking a look at the Pioneer 815K as a good intro receiver, do you think that will be enough for the setup we are discussing? or should I jump a step up?? Any other brands I should take a look at.

Thanks

In that price range, it's hard to beat the Pioneers. The 815 and the 1015TX are both very solid units and have an unbeatable feature set. The Yamahas available for the same cost might have cleaner preamp outputs, among a few other things. But in terms of very usable and necessary features, the Pioneer kicks butt. I'm debating between the 1015TX and similarly priced Yamaha unit to power my BICs. Not sure which I want yet. The 815 got a favorable review here. I've seen a few users with hum issues on them though. You might do better with the 1015, though it is $200 more expensive. If you can afford it (without like, abandoning food for a week), then go for the 1015.
