:confused:I am desperately in need of some advice on setting up these three pieces of equipment and how to get them to work best together... Every time I try something new it just brings me to another scientific hell that I know nothing about... i.e. "bitstream"!!!

I have everything running through HDMI. I have EMP bookshelf speakers front and rear, with an EMP center channel, and EMP sub. All the speakers are set to small. As for the blu-ray dvd I think I have it set to bitstream. But after that I am at a loss. I have talked to a few local installers but some simple questions I asked them came back with some sketchy answers... For example, the weight of an amplifier is a tell tale sign of how "good" it is... Maybe it does tell me it is heavy duty but I am sure it does not speak volumes about the particular amplifier. Anyways, any info would be appreciated!;)

And . . .

what exactly is your problem?

The beefiness of your amplifier has nothing to do with bluray player settings.

Amplifier weight is not always an accurate assessment of power, because some designs are much more efficient than others.

Your BD30 can only bitstream the lossless codecs. Therefore, set everything to bitstream.

If the bluray settings confuse you, I am worried about you just fiddling with a receiver. Bluray settings are very, very simple, and straightforward. Usually less than a minute, and you can forget about it forever.

^^ set your bluray player to bitstream and you should be fine. Your receiver will decode all of the codecs you throw at it, and you should be in A/V heaven.

Is there something not working right in particular that you need help with?

I am not that audio illiterate....

Thanks for the feedback guys... I have a fairly solid understanding of how all this works together. But I have heard alot of talk about letting the Blu ray players take care of certain tasks while letting your reciever take care of others... All my connections are solid. The last time I checked I believe I have my blu ray set to bitstream. So I should be fine there...

As for the reciever... one of my biggest questions is how to set the bass properly. There are two designated channels (connections) for subs on the 863 and I do have my sub connected properly with a non-monster cable. My biggest question is what to set the reciever at so my sub works to its full potential. I have the sub settings (which are proprietary to the sub) at around 70-80 hz for the crossover and roughly halfway on the volume. I have small bookshelf speakers which are very good speakers by what I have read but so far what I have heard is eh... they are all emp's and I am sure that there build and backround is more than solid but I am thinking I just do not have them properly adjusted...

As for the amplifier... I have no intention of purchasing one at this time until I move up to some larger speakers or if I find that an amplifier will enhance the sound quality and or speaker performance... I just though it was amusing that I walked into what was a predominantly high end shop with Hanling (?) recievers that looked like a bank safe and then to have one of the sales associates tell me to measure the quality of the amplifier by a weight scale... I might be a newbie but even I laughed to myself about that one...

Sorry for the novel!

Cheers
