Hi everyone!

I am 17 years old and i am student. I am new to this forum, and really do not know alot when it comes to home theater audio. I was hoping if anyone can set me up with a decent system that corrisponds to a budget around 500-600 CAD. Here are some factors to consider.

First: My room is pretty small ( 15ft by 17ft ), it is only a bedroom. Here are some pics to help you guys have a general idea.

( Sorry about the bad quality/ bad angles, i used ym web cam :) )

So i dont know what to do, should i buy all the equipment seperate, or should i stick to buying a home theater in a box, for example the onkyo 790 or 800. If not, can any of you please tell me what subwoofer i should buy / speakers/ recievers for around 500-600 dollers please.

I am not looking for a top notch system, just something that will play my DvD's, Xbox 360, PC MUSIC, and also maby my digital piano keyboard.

I am sorry for my lack of knwoledge in this subject, if one feels that this is not an answerable question, then just state it, rather then flame me back.

Any suggestions/ advice would be greatly appreciated and most likely followed.

Ps. Sorry for my English, as it is my second language.
Thanks,

Matt

$600 is pushing the limit of where you can reasonably put together a system from separate components and come out a winner, though I would still recommend going that route if possible because it will get you better gear in the long run. Most HTiB's weakness is the speakers, yet the speakers are more or less the most important thing in the system in terms of sound.

Are you in the US?

No, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

I guess i can buy a HTIB, then upgrade the speakers in like 1-2 years. =P

I heard good reviews about the onkyo 790/800.

Remember, im not an audioholic, i just need a 75-80 % system, as it is my first home theater system.

My room is also pretty small, and getting those high end products/speakers, seems to be unnecessary in the sort of environment im in.

I installed the 780 for a customer. For what you can buy the 780/790 for, they are pretty darn good. Check out www.ac4l.com I think they ship to Canada, though I don't know if the savings would be cancelled out by importing it, but they have very good prices on refurb Onkyo packages. Go to - home audio > packaged systems.

Let me know if you would choose the 790 or the 800, and also does refurbished means, it is not in retail packaging?

Also thanks alot J garcia, you have been a huge help.

Looks like you have an LCD TV/Monitor, so I would probably opt for the 800 simply for HDMI. I haven't had a chance to look at what the 800 offers though.

Thanks i orderd this HtiB system, cant wait for it to arrive. Also i heard that these speakers Cases ( like the front piece) can be removed to exposed the nice ( cooler looking ) interior, which would look amazing on my walls.

Will this reduce sound quality if i do remove these covers?

Let me know what you think?
