Newbie needs advice

Please excuse my ignorance but.....
I am looking for a nice home theater system that comes in a box. I am looking for something in the $300.00 - $500.00 range. I have a medium sized room. Some systems I have done some research on include the:
Sony DAV-FR1
Panasonic SC-HC700
Panasonic HT 720

If you could give me some input on these systems or others in my price range, it would greatly appreciated. I would like it to sound great with DVD and CD's, and my IPOD. Games is not important. I just confused with all the audio lingo and need help with what's most important. Thank you for your time assistance. Kyle

For HTIB, Yamaha and Onkyo seem to be some of the best systems around for the money. No HTIB can compete with a system bought individually, but these should be pretty good.

Have to agree with the Onkyo Systems.
You can't go wrong at that price.
