I am new to this whole AV surround concept. I am looking for a good sounding AV receiver . Reliable, good sound etc. I am not sure i want to get involved in this whole HDMI concept until all the conflicts are worked out. Just bought a KEF 3005 system from another member of this forum. This is all I can fit. Reviews have been outstanding.

I have been told to look at the Yamaha 657. Reviews were incredible. However, it is last years model. The new 659 does not have any ratings yet. I heard Yamaha is best for sound, ease of use and quality. Does anyone here have any suggestions? Comments? Ideas?

Please give me your honest opinions.

Thanks,

Rich

I personally think the Pioneer receivers would be a better sound match for the KEF's.

Yamaha, Denon, and Pioneer are all relatively reliable products with similar features for the money.

Why

do you feel that way? I was told Pioneer does not have as good musical quality. I was told on consider Elite line. What model and why would you recommend?

thanks

Yamaha receivers

I have a similar Yamaha receiver, the HTR-5860 and would recommend it. It and the RX-V657/659 are great options in the $300 price range. Some like the mid range poineer, and the new 1016 model includes an HDMI switch for about $400. I think that on of the only feature upgrade on the 659 is the burr brown D/A converters.

I hear denon is good stuff. Can you possibly afford anything from Rotel? Big step in the right direction if you can.
