My JVC TH-M505 finally died and after some perusing online I finally went for a Sony STRDH520 receiver and Pioneer SW-8MK2 Andrew Jones Subwoofer. I am currently using the center, front, and rear speakers from my old JVC TH-M505 HTIB.

I have been offered Panaray MA12's by Bose, up to 8 of them for free if I want them. There are also 2 - Renkus-Heinz TRC61's available for free as well. So having almost no home theater knowledge other than basic troubleshooting and hookup....

Will the speakers I'm being offered work with my new receiver
Will they outperform my current leftover htib speakers
Which speakers should be used for what
Should I keep this sub and receiver? I have 20 days to return them, paid 119.99 for the sub and 149.99 for the receiver with price match at best buy

Amazon.com: Sony STRDH520 7.1 Channel 3D AV Receiver (Black): Electronics - Sony Receiver

Living Room size is approx 24x12 and it is 2 stories high
Couch and tv are oriented facing each other against the 24' walls, approx 10' from viewer to tv

DVR and PS3 are my only two sources.

The Panaray are optimized for voice broadcasts in a PA system,
Frequency Response (+/-3 dB) 155 Hz - 12 kHz
Frequency Range (-10 dB) 100 Hz - 16 kHz
So, these cannot be used in a Home Theater.

The Renkus on the other hand looks like a very well designed full range speaker and there should be no problems using it for Home Theater. Comparing these to the JVC speakers is comparing cheese to chalk :).

At $150, the Sony receiver is fine, but the subwoofer is woefully inadequate for how big that room is. Return the sub and save up for something like the Hsu VTF2.

They cannot be used at all? Or they just won't be better than the HTIB JVC speakers?

Is there a sub closer to the 100-200 range? I can't justify 500$ for a sub for the 3-4 movies I watch a week

The Panaray cannot be used at all. You will be missing a lot of the sound. You should still take them and the sell them for cash towards other speakers ;). That Bose name does wonders for resale value.

Dayton Audio SUB-1200.

Let's put it this way. You can use them...

but you will most likely be disappointed with the performance.

After all, you can get from NYC to San Fran by bicycle but most people might prefer another means of conveyance.
