Hi!

I'm new to HT area and I would like to get some advise here.

I'm have a set of 5.1 speaker system which are all 6 ohm and I would like to add 2 more satellite speaker as surround back speaker. The thing is those 2 speakers are 8 ohm. Now I'm not sure what should I set in my AVR, 8 or 6 ohm? Please advice...

Thanks in advance

Leave it at 6 ohms

LOL, What avr do you have and what speakers? I don't think either setting is going to be a huge difference

The Ohm setting limits current draw when lower Ohm speakers are connected. In effect you are preventing the receiver from delivering rated power. It is CYA by the receiver manufactures putting light weight amp section in budget receivers. Leave it at 8 since mixing 6 and 8 Ohm rated speakers is no biggie. You will need to hear for distortion in the sound at higher listening levels. It is a sign that the receiver or speaker is being over driven.

That said, nominal Ohm rating of a speaker is not a true representation of the electrical load on the receiver's amp section. Further, speaker manufacturers routinely lie about the number and give higher nominal Ohm ratings to their products.

To give you a good assessment on your situation, can you provide details on the speakers and receiver in your setup?

Thanks for the advises. My speakers are Yamaha NS555, 333 and C444 with SW315 and using RX-V673. Now I want to add 2 back surround using Sony satellite speaker (8ohm) from HTIB which I used last time.

So I just leave the ohm setting at 8ohm will do?
