I am planning to purchase the following:

TSi tower 400s
TSi center
OWM 5 (when they come out) for the rears and surround for a 7.1
Sub will be polk as well unsure which one at the moment.

This should work should'nt it, or should I consider a diffrent set up?

Thanks to all for the help.

Then I need to get a receiver for this set went on the receiver board and said I should start with the speakers first. Looking at the Denon 3308 or some thing better Yamaha Rx 7.

Just want to do this right. Glad I found this site, theres lots of info to absorb.

There sure is.

The 3808 is a fine receiver. However, your budget is seriously out of whack.

Step down on the receiver, throw more where electrical energy is converted to mechanical energy: speakers. This is where, by far, no comparison, the greatest differences in quality can be found.

To put the above in other words, your money can hardly can go further anywhere else.

That all said, if you really love these Polks, can you fit a third tower as your center?

No can do on the tower for a center. I am just trying to get a good system going. Polk seams to be a good speaker rated in consumer reports and several friends who have them. By out of wack I don't under stand. speakers are going to cost 2-3k is that to little to spend?

I am kinda confused the room is 13 x 15 and open to the kitchen area 13 x 20I want to mount speakers from ceiling the polks OWM look to fit the bill. Is there something else?

Thanks for the help

Wow, 2 secs I found your towers for $500. I hope someone is not tearing you a new one. Or do you mean that the center and surrounds will cost $2,500?

You can do alot better. Polks have become made in china lo-fi speakers.

Their vintage stuff is audiophile grade if you don't mind buying used and saving some dough. They come up on ebay, craigslist, and a'gon. SDA 1B, 2B and 1C are very popular models because they aren't as big as the 2.3's or the SRS's and sound nearly as good as the big ones.

I have a 2-3k budget for speakers the OWM 5 look like what I wanted for a speaker to hang from the ceiling. The towers look good also. First I wanted bose then I went to Polk What is the best brand then? This is my first HT system.

I have the Samsung 52" 850 and the Sony 550 Blu ray.

So now its on to the speakers I looked at bose first but then read all the negitive reports. How ever consumer reporst rated them third in surround sound lifestyle system. They also rated Polk I think number 1. I find the consumer reports to be very accurate.

But I found this great site with lots of info, and of the many brands of speakers available which are the best? Then its on to picnking a reciever...Oh no !

I thought this would be kinda of stright forward but it is what it is.

Thank you to all who have input.

Joey, I offered you some better options than the Polk TSi series in previous posts. I’d like to know more about your room layout to decide on what type of surrounds will work best. Are you facing the 15’ wall area w/kitchen off to the side, or facing 13’ wall w/kitchen behind? If your room can handle it, multi-poles for sides and mono-poles for backs are preferred.

A few speaker options to start with for the front three:

PSB T45/55/C60
Energy RC-30/50/LCR
Monitor Audio RS-6/LCR
KEF iQ-50/70/60C
Polk RTi A5/7/CSi-A4/6
Ascend CMT-340/340C

Subs (minimally):
SVS PB12-NSD
HSU VTF-3 MK3
AV123 MFW-15
Epik Knight/Caliber

As mentioned in previous posts also, there is no need to spend over $1K on a receiver for this level of speaker setup unless there are features you find necessary.

The sound wall would be on the 13' side the 15' side runs along the side of the house with a fireplace and sliding glass door then into the breakfast nook in the kitchen. The oppsiteside of the exterior wall has an opening to the hall a door opening. I want to hang something from the ceiling for the rears if possible.

Thanks for all the help.

If you can listen to some at a www.kef.com/retailers/

then do so.

http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/KEFIQSRPACKA/KEF/iQ-Speaker-Package-with-Marantz-SR4002-receiver-cables-More-/1.html

Is a very slick deal comes with everything except a subwoofer. Leaves you 1000 for subs. You can pick up some nice subs for that kind of cash.

In general 80 percent goes to speakers

for speakers half goes to the subs and half to the rest.

The center channel is IMO the most important for a home theater setup because it's where all the dialogue comes from. For music listening the LR channels are very important. So for a balanced system I suggest you invest heavily in those. Then add some decent surrounds.

Kef makes the very good center channels. Like the Kef iq6.

You could also do a Beta series setup with 4 beta 20s and a beta 250 or 360. Pair it with an Onkyo 705 or something comparable a. Just add a couple very good subs to that and you would have a great system

These are very low cost options. beta 20s go for 70 each including shipping via the ebay infinity direct store(they come with full warranties). 360 is an amazing center speaker. With a lot of power.

I only mention it because this economy is tough. That's why I am going DIY with my future speakers.

What you are looking at getting is actually what I have, but the OWM3's and 5.1. The whole system bumps and sounds very good. My room is about 20X15 with vaulted ceilings and it makes me not want to leave my living room, ever. I see a lot of people hate on Polks for some reason, but it can't be their sound quality. I haven't heard every speaker, but from what I have heard, Polk makes a great speaker. I bought my whole speaker set up for about $1400. And the Polk sub I have is very powerful for being so small. It hits very tight and accurate.

Although we all don't agree on speaker brand, I think we all agree that you should NOT buy Bose, ever ever ever!!!

Good luck with whatever you choose!

Oh for Gods sake will you stop beating a dead horse Carl! Practically EVERYTHING is made somewhere else. And not everyone is interested in 20 year old used speakers that need their own damn house to fit in!

Just give it a rest!

I would stay away polk. They have become low-fi made in china bose replicas. I wouldn't have anything but vintage polks in my house.

What is the best brand then?
There is no single answer to that question, there are many models from many brands that all perform similarly good.

There are criteria derived from studies in perceptual research that allow a person to look at sufficiently inclusive acoustic measurements and conclude the sound quality of a speaker - because most people most of the time will like the same thing when it comes to sound quality.
How ever consumer reporst rated them third in surround sound lifestyle system. They also rated Polk I think number 1. I find the consumer reports to be very accurate.
Consumer Reports is a useful resource, unfortunately their method for rating loudspeakers leaves something to be desired.
