Newbie looking for advice

I am relative newbie in the Home Theater field, so I was hoping to get some advice. I just got a really nice plasma (Panasonic TC-P50G15) and will soon be getting a blue ray player. I am looking for a relatively inexpensive speaker / receiver combo. I currently live in a small apartment, so a full surround system is out of the question now.

I was hoping to get a receiver and a 2.1 or 3.1 speaker system (small speakers for my small apartment) and to keep the costs 1t $500 or less. I know this is really cheap, but I think I should be be able to find something in this range.

Thanks for your help.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums.

For the receiver, I can suggest you one.
But for the speakers, you might want to check in the speaker's forums.

* Here's the receiver: http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/MARSR5002/Marantz/Sr5002-Receiver-90w-x-7ch-Hdmi-Home-Theater-Surround/1.html

I hope it's not too much money. That will leave you about $200 for two or three speakers.

** But for still less money: http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/ONKTXSR576/Onkyo/Tx-sr576-7.1-channel-Home-Theater-Receiver-Black/1.html

*** And to put more money towards the speakers (better quality):

))) That way, you have a choice, and you can put the money you'd like towards the speakers.

I would recommend staggering your HT purchases a little further.

For now, just get 2.0 with a receiver. Next add a sub and finally center and surrounds.

From what I have read, the Behringer B2030P makes a great bookshelf speaker for the price, $150 pair. Use the remainder of money on a "good fit" receiver from this article, AH Entry Level AVR comparo.

For a receiver get the HK AVR 254 shipped from the HK store on ebay(it's full warranty and a great deal) or used.

For speakers get the Behringer 2031p if you want to skip the sub or the 2030p if you want to add a sub.

For the sub get a Dayton 12"

You'd be set on that. You can go used on the AVR and get something great, but the HK AVR has full blu-ray support and very good amps.

For Blu-ray I use the Panasonic BDP-60 at 130 it's a great deal.

Speakers to match with the receiver.

Also for some very nice speakers, you should consider the Paradigm Atom Monitor v.6
At $289.88 for the pair, they surely fit your budget.
