Ok gents... obviously I am lookin for a sub. I am 25 and finally building my first proper sound system. I am rather an audiophile and want quality of sound #1 on the priority list. I have heard the super cube iii and I like its boom it has. Music quality is a little shabby though. I got cash (gonna save up tons of ot at work). So price range is like $1500 and below.

Thus far after reading pages of this forums and others here are the subs I have found.

The Super Cube 1
SVS PB12-NSD
SVS PB-12 Plus
The Epik Empire Subwoofer
Boston Acoustics subs
and some of the H-100 ebay subs (which kinda scare me)

point is I want something that will reproduce HT and music sounds they way they were ment to be heard and felt.

My system as it sits right now is a Denon AVR-1640 and the RB-61 from Klipsch... they currently sit at work hooked up for the OT hours and I can turn it up as much as I want. Ill be moving this to a house whenever I buy one in the future. So I dont really have room size. Id piss everyone off at the apartment complex with what i have just now.

Tips info Im reading just about as much as I can to get caught up in this world of sound. Thanks for the help guys/gals.

From your list, consider the SVS subs or the Epic. Scratch the rest off your list - maybe not the Def Tech, as I didn't review those specs. The H-100 may seem a bit boomy and the Boston subs will just be underwhelming. I've owned a few Boston subs to realize this.

Awesome thats a good start.... so SVS or Epik.... so that would mean its

the Empires vs SVS PB-12 Plus

(dont wanna go dual right now either)

Lets confuse a bit further by adding eD:
A7-350 and A7-450 both very serious contenders,

SVS PC13-Ultra would be great choice was well, taking very little floor space, while shaking like 9.5 Earthquake....

But for most bang for the buck you might want to go DIY ...

never done a DIY in the sub area man.... got cash just wanna fork it over for something worth it. Issue is I dont know whats worth it.

have you thought about using dual subs.. you will gain lots of headroom aswell as smoother bass over your entire room,,

i have the Premier Acoustics PA120,s and i love them,,, i was also looking at sound quality since i used to compete in car audio sound quality so to me proper bass sound was important but since i didnt have the money to buy dual 600 dollar subs i sacrificed just a lil but at the end i gained a lot..

here is a quote that i like in reference to multy sub placement

Dr. Floyd Toole: “That said, no matter how many subwoofers and how many listeners we’re talking about, equalization should be the final step to make it sound right. A single subwoofer can entertain a single listener with equalization -- good sound is possible. But once you have more than one listener, then you need multiple subwoofers.”

i have 1 epik empire and its amazing, for 1500 you can get 2 of them which would be mind blowing.. they are big though so you need some space.

both companies are great and well respected here. the dual 15"'s that are in the empire is very compelling though.. just say dual 15"'s is huge :)

thats what I rather found out. Seems like everyone here likes both... I have the cash for either one. Which one is better though... or is the Empire like The Allmighty and just is huge sound...

and I dont know the difference in sound between sealed and ported subs.

Question is this... if you guys could pick either one which would you get and why?

It aint ever going to see the apartment... Its all at work right now for Overtime reasons. Whenever I get a house Ill transfer it there.

What I currently have is the RB-61s and the Denon AVR-1610

future fronts will be the RF-82s and a Klipsch center

what kind of room is this going to be in ?
If I hazard a guess I would say something like 20'x20' room 8' ceiling dry wall construction backed by 2x4 or 2x6 walls. Maybe a hardwood floor with a rug... maybe carpeted.

wish I could just listen to them... make this so much easier. Something tells me the SVS would be enough... I mean I want to feel the bass but not kill anyone with it. That and alot of people like the SVS but then again alot of people like the empire... sigh looks like both are good. I just need to listen to them...
