Newbie LFE Question

I have a Velodyne 8" that has a LFE input channel - how should I hook that up to my Integra amp? Thanks.

Hi, wingz.

You say that your Integra is an amplifier, but I want to double check that it's not a pre-amp or a receiver. An integrated amp might also have the right connections for a sub. What is the model number?

If the Integra has a jack on the back for a subwoofer output, that is the jack to use to connect to the Velodyne. There are also some things to set up in the menu system of the Integra for bass management, assuming that you have a receiver or pre-amp.

Anyway, let us know the model number, and we'll get you all set up.

It's an Integra Receiver DTM 5.3 and the Sub is an 8" Velodyne DLS 3500.

Just checked both devices. connect the subwoofer output of the Integra receiver to the LFE input ( just says input) of the Velodyne sub. The sub is powered and the sub-out is a pre-amp output level and since the sub is powered but you can input at line level or speaker level; connect to the line level to use the amplifier in the sub. There are left and right input jacks conect to either one.

Your Integra receiver has a jack on the back panel that is labeled "SUBWOOFER PRE OUT". That's the jack that you want to use on the receiver.

The Velodyne subwoofer has line-level connections (the ones with RCA jacks), and those are what you should use. The owner's manual for that sub is available at this link if you don't have one (just pay special attention to the page numbers at the bottom - they are not in order). It explains how to set the unit up. In particular, I recommend that you use the bass management in the Integra and bypass the crossover in the sub. To bypass the sub's crossover, set the "SUBWOOFER DIRECT/INTERNAL X-OVER" switch to "SUBWOOFER DIRECT". I'm not sure if you need to connect the subwoofer output from the receiver to both the left and right line-level inputs on the sub or not. You can always get a y-splitter to do that.

That's how I recommend connecting it. If you have any questions about setting it up, just let us know.
