Hey guys, As stated before i am new here, great board! i just wanted to the time to introduce myself. i have recently been laid off from a communications company (Avaya formerly Lucent tech./AT&T). i have been in communications for 12 years doing structured cabling, phone systems, etc...
i have decided to open my own company , subcontracting to larger companies doing the same job i have been doing. i am staying pretty busy so far. i am also venturing into Home Theater and Home Audio. while building my house 3 years ago i prewired it for HT and 6 zones for audio. after having friends over to my house i have done alot of their houses now too! i just finished a upperscale day spa & salon a friend of mine is opening, including 7 zones of audio, phone system and complete computer network.
i have really come to enjoy doing wiring for audio and HT, more so than structured cabling. i think i am growing bored w/ the communications and the HT/Audio is new and challenging to me. my hopes are to subcontract to real HT/Audio stores in area for installs or atleast wiring.
i would like to find some sort of a training course or materials for HT/Audio, like different componets, HT technology. i would like to know what i am working on and be able to talk competently to customers about the equipment.
if there are any installers reading this thatcould make some reccomendations for me (training wise) i would greatly appreciate it! again, great site and thanks for letting me take up your time!

The best thing in the long term would be to begin working toward your CEDIA cert.

No, mtry doesn't do installs, but BMXTRIX and RLA do. Talk to them. Heck, Gene and Clint are both great resources as well.

hey thanks for the replies! i did recently buy the Cedia/ HTI study guide and it comes w/ a practice test on cd-rom. i am reading the guide and i have taken the practice test a couple of times (i actually did better than i thought i would) . has anyone else tried the practice exams? are they close to the real exams? does anyone on this board have any of the Cedia certs?
i did look at the books that Cedia reccomends and there is alot of stuff to cover compared to whats on the practice exams. i hope to hear from someone who has taken the level 1 exam so i can see how the practice exams compare to the real ones. i have taken practice exams (Net+, Cisco ccna) that are really close to the real thing and some that weren't!
