Any ideas for best value set up for a small to medium size room? Just purchased my first home and am finally getting to the exciting part of AV stuff. Currently Have an NAD 375BEE amp and PSB Sychony Two speakers in the living room for music. Upstairs I'm trying to create a movie room. I was thinking about purchasing B & W CM1 monitors with CMC center and 686 and rears and a Rotel Rsx1550 as the amp.

Can one think of a better set up for the price, my budget is a max of four thousand, willing to hold off on parts to build a good set up. Thanks for your advice, this audio stuff can be daunting with all the choices!!!! Totem PSB Def Tech, B & W, Kef..... Yikes

So, 4K is for 5 speakers and amplifier? (No mention of anything else in your post regarding the upstairs.)

Small/medium = what dimensions?

Movie room = projector?

Are you willing to try DIY? This can save you over a thousand with the screen, and thousandS with the speakers. If willing to go DIY like I recently did (acoustically transparent), the speakers don't even have to be pretty anymore, as the front three can all be hidden. Anyways, I am a DIY retard, and with quality help in there for me, I did get the screen wall done. I also did my first speaker repair. Last summer was my first subwoofer kit build. In the distant horizon may be my first speaker builds.

You're right about the "daunting" part. Your ears and wallet are your guide. B & W is a good brand. Since you already have something in mind, it's a good place to start.

I recently went shopping for new speakers myself. Grab your favourite and familiar music, and some good movies and head to the store. One of my tests was LOTR Return of the King, Chapter 11. YMMV Take your time!

Welcome to the site, it's always fun helping others spend their money. Yes, the room dimensions will help, especially when it comes to sizing the sub, which you FORGOT!
Are you shooting for a 7.1 setup?
