Hey guys, I finally got my new tv and I am looking to get a DVI to HDMI cable, & component cables. I want to buy a good quality cable but I don't know what brand to get. I've looked at monster cable but is it really worth the price? I am thinking it's mostly hype, since it's "monster".

Anyone have any recommendations for me as to what brand and where I can get it?

TIA, I appreciate your help.

You can get most, if not all your cable needs met at Radio Shack with the Radio Shack Gold products. Fair prices and decent products. Be aware, Radio Shack now sells Monster stuff. Nothing wrong with the Monster stuff other than price IMO.

I have seen this site suggested by other readers. However Impact acoustics is a sponser of this site and have give up cables for review in the past that seem to be well regarded. Also for being an audioholic member you get 20% off. The cheapest cable you are looking for retails for $29 but with the discount is $23. Here's a link Impact Acoustics.

Thanks. Do you think there will be a big quality difference in the $29 cable compared to the $85 cable. I don't mind spending a little more money if it's worth the extra cash. How do I get the discount, by calling?

You should be able to get the discount by following the link I pasted and putting the unit in the cart by clicking buy now. If you need a longer, or shorter cable just click on links to bring you back out and then put your selection in a cart. I hope my link is active. If none of this works all I can suggest is refreshing the screen a bunch of times till you get the impact acoustics banner across the top to click on. You could also PM either Clint or Gene.

As for cable cost my gut is to tell you to take whatever is cheapest that will do the job well. For me it would be the $23 cable, it says it exceeds all requirements, and when a reputable merchant claims that then you can worry a little less. There are guys who do installs on this site for a living and I know that one Moderator even owns his own shop and I'd suggest that you PM them and ask their opinion. Seriously I'd PM either RLA, BMXTRIX, ANNUKI, Clint or Gene. I'd really you rather went with the last 2 because they own the site and I'm afraid I'd be stepping on toes to suggest otherwise. They will need to know type of equipment you have, and cable length needed. Those guys are all experts. There is also Buckeye, he is the member I always seem to get help from when I'm stuck and he knows his stuff too. Good luck, and by the way you were right, Monster is overpriced. It would do the job but no better than the cables listed or Radioshack gold for that matter but leave you walking with a limp the next day.

There are lots of other members that are experts in this stuff, I'm only posting a few, there are more that I could post but then I'd worry about leaving someone out. This is a perfunctory list.

Thanks for the detailed reply. I will try and PM one of the experts on the board, but just incase one of you is reading this here's my setup. I have a 34" SONY KV-34HS420. I will be connecting a Comcast HD-PVR unit to the TV which has a dvi output, my tv has hdmi. I believe the unit is made by Motorola. (Installation is this Thursday). I also have a progressive scan toshiba dvd player that I will be connecting through component. (Not enough $ to get my 3805 at once also :( )

Basically, I just would like to know what cables would suit me the best.

Thanks Guys!

Expirience with Monster DVI~HDMI cable

I purchased a Monster DVI to HDMI cable when I bought my RCA 50" DLP TV. I spent the un-godly price of $179 for it (400 series) along with a Samsung DVD 841 player. The picture was not quite what I expected. Ultimately I hooked up my Pioneer DVD333 player with component cables and everyone present agreed the picture was ALOT better. I then proceeded to go back to the Samsung using the component cables and again, much improved over the signal over the cable. I purchased an Arista DVI to HDMI cable for $39 and found the image was improved as well. I hooked the Monster cable up to my Motorola digital cable box and its got a really good picture on that, so as my system sits I have my Pioneer going through component and my cable box through the DVI~HDMI on my TV. The Samsung is not being used, but that is another story.

My point is go with the inexpensive cable. If I could have returned the Monster cable I would have.
