I've been learking around for a little while, and now I'm going to nut up and finally get some decent speakers - but I'm on a budget since its hard to justify with a second baby on the way....

My local classifieds has the following ad and I wanted to see if you guys with the experience cared to put your opinions in on this for a new Audioholic member:

For Sale is the Paradigm Entertainment System. We are the original owners and paid more than ten times the asking price. This system lightly used, thus it still works really great and is aesthetically pleasing - i.e. in really good condition.
If sold individually, the prices are as follows:
- Two Paradigm Studio 80 Speakers...... $300
- One Subwoofer (PS Series 1200)....... $350
- One Center Channel (Paradigm CC450)... $250

Send me an email if interested!

Ths Ad says $800 for all of them.....

the 80s have been discontinued for years, so those aren't exactly new, but they are good speakers and are definitely worth that price. I'd say it is a deal worth jumping on.

I don't know why, but for some reason I like the older versions of Studio series speakers than the new ones.

That's because I just went and bought them myself....I test drove them while they were just sitting side by side and the center on top of the loudspeakers and the sub right next to them....Wow! Amazingly loud!! I can't wait to set them up and start playing around with location and sound. Anyone know how to set this up with Two subs? I've got an older sony STR-DA555Es....and, should 120W per channel be enough? Should I cancel my order for the yamaha RX-3800??

If you plan to get into Blu-ray in the future the Sony will not deliver in terms of decoding and flexibility. The Yamaha adds a lot to the roster other than just HD audio processing. It's got networking abilities as well as more current setup procedures that you can dile your speakers in with much greater precision. IMO, get the Yamaha.:D

I'd say stick with the Yamaha also, and even that may not be quite enough, depending on how loud you intend to listen and the size of your room.
