Hi guys I'm new to the forum (my 1st post!). This looks like a great resource gonna be spending hours reading through all of the information I'm guessing. :)

Anyway, I've got a question:

I have a yamaha 6.1 reciever which has an AC power outlet built it. I also have an active subwoofer which requires AC power. At the moment I am powering the sub directly from the mains power outlet in the wall but want to know if there would be any negative affects from using the AC outlet on the amplifier to power the sub. Or should I leave it the way it is?

Thanks.

The switched outlet on a receiver is meant for low power devices like DVD players that you would like to have turn on when the receiver turns on. It should NOT be used for an amp, powered sub, TV, etc.

Next to the outlet there should be a label that says something like '120w, 1A max'. The sub will certainly draw more than 1A. Leave the sub connected to the wall outlet.

Thanks MDS, I will leave it connected to the wall.
