Hello AV Gurus,

Hope you can assist me with the following:

Equipment:
1. Front speakers: Polk Monitor-70
2. Surround, centre Speakers and subwoofer: Definitive Tech ProCinema-60
3. Amplifier: Yamaha RXV-667

In the current set-up I am only using 5.1 with Def Tech satellite speakers and the sub. The front speakers are connected through subwoofer. I also connected the subwoofer using the subwoofer cable (wasn't sure that was necessary, but the systems sounds great).

As we are moving to a bigger space, I wanted to upgrade my system to 7.1. That said, I bought the Polk Monitor 70 (floor standing tower speakers) and I am planning on making them the main left and right.

That said I am not sure how to go about connecting the main speakers:
1. Should the new tower speakers be connected thru sub (amp to sub and then to main towers using speaker cables)
2. If so, should I still connect the sub directly to amp using the subwoofer cable

You would be better off if (at least) your center channel matched your front left and right speakers. If MC music is your goal, add the surrounds to that list as well.

Thanks Mark! I agree, eventually want to replace the centre speaker. For now I'd like to lever the existing speaker I got.

So, should I directly connect the Mains (polk towers) to amp and set the front as large, sub=yes? OR should I still connect the main thru the sub?

Thanks again!

With your current speakers, this is what I would do. Set the L/R to Large, all others small using a 120 Hz crossover in the receiver. The low-end response of the Polks and the sub are about the same so no reason to run the mains through the sub. You could run the center through the sub but there is no real benefit.

Once again thank you!
