Hello all, I have been a lurker for a mere week or two, but have decided to build my own system.

I will start with my humble request. I would like to build a sub with the Kappa Perfect 12 VQ. I will probably use the MCM 300W RMS plate amp. But, I have no idea of how to design a box for the sub. I have looked at the rather extensive design outlayed in some previous posts, but with no demensions, I don't know where to begin. Also, what crossover network should I use. I plan on getting my parts from PE, but don't even know where to start. Can someone please help? BTW, I would like to use the sub enclosure as an end table by the sofa.

On a side note, I have been looking at speaker designs as well and have been intigued by the S.C.5.1 design as shown on the parts express project showcase. Any thoughts on these as both HT and music speakers?

Keep in mind that I am as Newb as Newb can be, but really want to take a crack at this.

Thank you in advance.

You don't need a crossover, the sub amp and/or the receiver will already take care of that.

You might also take a look at the amps from www.rythmikaudio.com I use the A350 with my Tempest and it handles it very well.

What is it you don't understand about the threads concerning building subs with the Kappa perfect 12 VQ? In the models the box volumes are clearly given. It is then up to you to decide the dimensions you want that will give the correct volume.

I suggest you read some literature before embarking on building other speakers. You could start with Vance Dickerson's loudspeaker cook book and Bullock on boxes. I believe they are available from Parts Express.

Which threads have you read by the way?

You are on the right lines, speaker building is great fun and you will learn an awful lot about audio engineering. Really everybody who is really interested in this hobby and wants to learn in greater depth about audio should be building speakers.
