Hey guys,

(First post)

I just moved into a house. I am not in the master bedroom so space is kind of cramped. I have a Vizio 50" 720p Plasma TV, and I was just looking to purchase a reasonable setup for my gaming, sports, and movie experiences. I think a 5.1 setup would be a little much considering the amount of space I have so I was thinking of just getting 2 floor standing or 2 shelf speakers and a sub in addition to a receiver.

Im not looking to spend more than $500-600

Any thoughts, hints, or comments would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks!

That doesn't leave a whole lot for a receiver. What will you be plugging into it? You could get an Onkyo TX-8555 2.1 receiver for under $200 if you run your video sources straight to the TV and then just put the audio through the receiver.

(sorry, i know this will be brutal)

Plugging into? I will just need a receiver and the speakers correct?

My TV has HDMI so I would just run the HDMI from the receiver to the TV and then the speakers directly to the receiver. (Please tell me if there is a better way)

Thanks for the help!

I mean what will your sources be? Cable box, PS3, Wii, etc?

We need to figure out how you'll get your video from the sources to the TV and audio to the receiver, which will help determine what receiver you will need.

I apologize.

I have DirecTV so I will be using one of their Cable boxes with the HDMI out and I have a Xbox 360 which also has an HDMI out

Well as long as your TV has 2 HDMI inputs you can run video from the XBox and cable box to the TV, and use a digital audio output from each to the receiver. That's if you want to get the stereo receiver.

Or you can get an Onkyo SR509 for about $210, which has HDMI switching and allows you to go up to 5.1 in the future. I'd probably do the 509. Check Accessories4less.com for the receiver and Amazon for the sub and speakers.

soundbar plus sub

At $500 to $600 and given your space constraints, you might want to think about the Boston Acoustics TV soundbar and sub, reviewed here http://www.audioholics.com/reviews/speakers/satellite/boston-acoustics-tvee-model-30-first-look. It runs $600. I really like the zvox soundbars as well. I own two. They are really good with music (I'm listening to one right now in my office) and it is a really good company to deal with. The Zbase 580 fits under your TV and it will fill up your room nicely with sound and bass, http://www.zvoxaudio.com/cgi-bin/item/4005801. It has a 120 watt digital amp, multiple digital inputs (just run the hdmi to the tv and then run a digital out to the zvox), 2 6 1/2 inch subs, and can be programmed to respond to your remote. It is designed to fit right under the TV. The zvox units I've used just sound really good for music and movies.
