Has anyone tried the New Yamaha receivers? What is the difference between the RXV series e.g the 3800 and the 863 apart from the power output
I am thinking of upgrading my RXV 2500 which has no HDMI inputs
I have been very happy with the sound of the 2500 so far.

You can visit the Yamaha website (http://www.yamaha.com/yec/compare/Detail.html?compitem1=&compitem2=558316&compitem3=567570&CTID=5000300&VNM=LIVE&comp_items=558316&comp_items=567570&B_compare.x=33&B_compare.y=1) and compare the features of the two. Just curious, does your 2500 power all of your speakers or you have a power amp to take care of the 4 ohm LSI 15?

Yamaha 2500

Yes, the 2500 powers the seven speakers and the Mirage sub. Don't seem to have any problems and I listen to them at least 2-3 hours per day since I am retired.

I went from the 2500 to the 3800.
And audibly, I cannot tell any difference.
The GUI is exactly the same. There are more bass cross over points on the 3800 and things like net radio, USB port, media server capabilities. I use most all of them. The remote is almost exactly the same as well aside from changing the spot of the source buttons were on the 2500 which will mess you up for the first week.

However the 1800 is so close that if I were to do it again I would probably go with it instead.

If you have a 480p DVD player the HDMI upscaler on the receiver will help you get to 720p for your TVs native, but I assume your cable box already scales for you so that wont be an issue.

You can get 20% the 863 1800 and the 3800 from the audioholics store right now. That puts the 1800 is the $900 range.

yamaha upgrade

Thanks dezoris,
Appreciate the advice.
Am still looking around and listening to different demos
I was quite taken with the Pioneer 94TXH. Never had a pioneer receiver.
Never had any problems with Onkyo and Yamaha receivers or ROTEL( stereo only).
I have until August to make my decision as I am thinking of redoing my Home theater room around that time.
Thanks again
