Thank you all for dissecting all my verbage from the previous posts about Onkyo,Pioneer,Yamaha, and making some sense of it. Today I heard that pioneer is calling it quits? What? A salesman at Fry's told me.

Anyone purchased any of these AVR's yet? If so, any problems? pros and cons?

I know from the beginning of this post I was thinking HTiab...boy, what was I thinking? I will need HDMI 4/out and 1/in. Be able to use either 3.1 for normal broadcast, and have HDMI pass-through.

The more peeps I talk to, the more Components systems are the way to go. Since Onkyo was my first choice (606,706), I was going to wait for the new Onkyo lineup due out in April, like the 707. I just saw the new Yamaha RX-V565 ($430.00) and the RX-V665 ($499.99) AVR's.

90w per channel (630w) continuous peak power. For my small 12x10 room, it would be fine.

Everyone has their own opinion on receivers, I know, but for the price point, they are cheaper than the Onkyo, and don't overheat as much.

The 665 has some features the 565 does not have, like 20/20 frequency bandwidth, front A/B speakers,Zone 2 Output, XM/Sirius capable, and Dolby Digital Plus..(the 565 only has the Dolby Digital LogicII.)

The speakers I may go with are the HSU research sound" Performance II, ventriloquist 6.1 Package for $550.00. Manufactured in Anaheim CA.

I would go with the 665 as it has 1080p upconversion over HDMI. Well after further investigation I guess the 565 has that too. But to me the Top Art and Preout's as well as the mutichannel inputs just in case you wanted to add an amp down the road or run analog audio inputs. Not to mention the Pure Direct mode which is a really nice feature.

I haven't heard the Ventro system but if their speakers are anything like their subs you will be hard pressed to find anything better...period..

One of my friends is getting a 665 to go with his new EMP system. I will be helping him set it up this week if you want some feedback on how it performs I can let you know.

Pioneer wouldn't have to drop out of the game if they where doing what they where 5 years ago.

Yeah they made great receivers....but IDK about their new offerings....very weak.

As for Onkyo's new offering....not qite sure what they were thinking....I mean the 6-7 HDMI ports are awesome...but no 1080p upconversion?? I'm referring tot he new 6 model. And its several hundred more that the Yamaha equivalent.

The TX-SR607 does have analog to HDMI upconversion and it upscales to 1080i (which is lame, it should do 1080p).

Thanks...

krzywica,
The Ventriloquist Performance II VT-12 6.1 Speaker package and the way to hook up a 6.1 channel according to them on a diagram on the box the speakers came in.

I will admit that this way of hooking up the front mains to the center front is weird, this is the way they recommend it at HSU sound for their setup on a 6.1.
Front left and right mains connect into the center speaker back, then from the center, two more wires...the Front right, and front left go into the receiver. Then the rear left and rear right surround go into the receiver.

If I want to add the 6th rear-center, or two more sats for the 7.1 effect fine, then from the 6th rear-center into both the rear-left and rear right connectors.

Sounds different than the regular way to do a hookup, I know. So it's up to me to decide on the 6.1 or 7.1 or just do the 5.1 for now.

On the wiring, I ordered 100' of 14ga for the rear surrounds, and 50' of the 16ga for the two front mains.Longest run is 40' for the rear left, 26' for the rear right. Fronts- Right channel 18', Left channel 14'.

The fronts: Somebody had mentioned to cut the lengths the same to the longest run, and the back surrounds do not matter,so they can be cut individual lengths.

(coincidentally, others have told me to cut all the speaker wire the same regardless where they go.)

Thanks!

It's been floating around that they plan to either stop or cut back massively to direct their force toward car audio. Perhaps the JVC/Kenwood merge has them on edge (I've always felt that Kenwood, JVC, and Pioneer where pretty heavy players and almost directly competitive in the car audio market).
