Ok, I am picking out a new TV for my bedroom and have come across a problem that I need help with. This will not be our primary TV and will mostly be used for nighttime viewing before bed. I guess my point is, I don't need it to have a lot of features or connectivity, just basic use stuff. However, I would like it to have a good picture.

I am trying to stay under $600 or so and was planning on picking up a Westinghouse VR-4090 which are currently on sale at BB. But, while browsing their website I noticed that they have some refurbished Samsung LN46B650T1FUZA-RB for a good price. I should mention that I don't mind buying refurbished gear so that is not an issue for me.

Now when the Samsung came out (in 2009 I think) it was a very well reviewed TV with great picture quality. The Westinghouse (which is a new model) is generally reviewed as having a decent picture. My question is, how does a good/excellent picture from a 3-4 year old display compare to an avg display on a new model? I don't know how fast display technology changes and although I would be happy to pay the $200 more for the Samsung if I am going to get a better quality picture, I would rather not if the picture will be comparable to or inferior to the newer westinghouse. Make sense?

I should mention that this TV will be hooked up to HD cable and a blue-ray player.

Thanks,
Eric
