Hi folks,

I picked up a pair of the above mentioned speakers this past weekend, got them all hooked up and they sound wonderful! There is one small issue with one of the woofers at specific frequency. The Woofer sounds like it is rattling, and fails to produce the correct sound, this generally happens when playing Audio tracks from movies.

I'm fairly clueless as to what to do for troubleshooting with these speakers. Visually they are in mint condition, the surrounds of the woofers are perfect, and no flaws on the cone/tweeter etc. I will try and make a short movie of the woofer/sound when I get home tonight if that would help analyze the issue.

It is just ONE woofer as I tried switched the two speakers to see if it was just the one output, but the rattle stays with the woofer.

I am using a Yamaha RX-v592

If you need any further info I will reply asap.

I can tell you for certain what the problem is. You have described classic gap rub.

Your speakers have been over driven and the voice coils heated. That woofer has either suffered a warp of the voice coil former and now is touching the magnetic gap, or more likely has dropped a turn from the voice coil due to over heating, and this loop of wire is now free in the gap.

Either way the symptom and remedy are the same.

That speaker has to be reconed. There is no other way to repair it.

Contact PSB and see if they have a service exchange policy, or ask what there reconing charge is.

It seems you were the victim of a dishonest seller.
