I am waiting a new TV that has HDMI inputs. I have a Pioneer VSX-815
I also have 3 HD receivers with HDMI out. I could connect the HDMI to the TV video and run the audio through the amp. So I could live without the HDMI on the receiver. The problem Im having now is I have lost some hi freq hearing and I would like to add an equalizer to boost the highs. So is it possible with the Pioneer or do I need a new amp, are there any with freq adjustment or preamp/power amp in/out so I can connect the equlizer? I have an older Poneer with the split I could use if necessary but its not as good an amp.

Welcome Larry. Receivers these days don’t have the main in/out or tape loop features to incorporate external processing like those of yesteryears. These days the setup needs to have separate amps to incorporate external processing between it and the processor (receiver/preamp). There are receivers however that offer eqs built in that may be an option for you. I’m not sure at what level they become available, but if you could provide the make/model of your speakers and budget for a new head unit I’m sure we could help you find something that will work. A couple of less expensive receivers that offer internal equalization:

Onkyo 606/706
Pioneer 1018

The Pioneer 918 has a 5-band eq (40Hz, 125Hz, 250Hz, 4kHz, 13kHz) that can be had for $263 on Amazon. The downside is that it only has 2 HDMI inputs.

The Onkyo 606 w/5-band eq (63Hz, 250Hz, 1KHz, 4KHz, 16KHz) goes for $320 and has 4 HDMI inputs.

That's great, I will check them out. My TV has 3 HMDI inputs so I can use it to switch the video. If I use one in conjunction with the Amp I would have 4 available with the Pioneer.
Right now Im using the HDMI inputs on the TV and outputting the optical connector to the AVR, but unless Im watching OTA broadcast the optical output is only 2 channels. So I need an amp with at least 4 optical audio inputs.

Thanks
