New to this, need help with this sub

I'm looking to buy this sub - BIC America F12 12" 475-Watt Front Firing Powered Subwoofer (cant post links sorry)

I need the cheapest way to effectively connect it and two speakers together. Would a reciever like this (Sherwood RX-4503) work? I will be buying some cheap speakers to connect, but I need to know if it will have enough power to power that sub. If not, what will? The sub is powered, so does the reciever matter at all?

Welcome.

You stated correctly, the sub is powered. As long as the pre or receiver has a sub out or LFE, most do, you can run the sub.

This brings us to the Sherwood. What speakers are you planning on with this sub?
Do you plan on going to surround sound?

The Sherwood is a two channel unit. It does have a sub out, so if 2 channel is your goal it will work.
