New to the HT World

Hi all I have been reading here for quite a while now and have a question about which towers to get. I was given a Sony STRDH 820 7.2 receiver as a gift. It is brand new and in the box and haunt had it out to play with it. I also have access to an older pair of cerwin vega VS series. Im not really sure how old these are. They were part of a stereo system that my friends dad took down. The only issue I see with these is that they are 6 ohm impedance. I have also been looking at the deals going on that end today of the frys Infinity Primus P363s. Their info says that they are 8 ohm impedance. I have read from people here that they are 4ohm. The other pair of towers that I was looking at were the polk monitor 60s from newegg.

Right now I'm only looking to do the towers and in the near future do the sub and surrounds. If someone could please help me to decide if the cerwin vegas are ok to run with the AVR for now or if i would be better of with a pair of the other towers and which towers would give me the best sound as a 2.0 system to upgrade later.

Thanks for help/and/or advice in advance

Kevin

I'd go for the Infinity speakers. Their impedance shouldn't present a problem unless you run them at high volumes for prolonged periods. Worst case scenario is your receiver will automatically shutdown when it senses too much heat, and you would have to be running them fairly hard to make that happen. I think that is worth the risk for high quality speakers.

Thanks for the advice those are what I was leaning towards just wanted to make sure that there wouldn't be an issue with the impedance. Im working on getting everything set up and installed here still waiting to paint a few more rooms in the house before I work on getting the HT all set up. These speakers and AVR will be paired with the 50 in Panasonic p50s30 that I got last black friday from best buy. Ive never had an avr or surround set up so I'm really looking forward to piecing this all together and really opening my ears to the sound outside of the tiny tv speakers. I do know that setting up the surrounds is going to be tricky because the room is a really odd shape and the seating is all the way against the back wall. The only thing going for me is that I have never had any speakers other than the tv so that any sound will be an improvement over what I'm used to.

I have been looking around as to what my options would be for a center and was wondering if anybody had an opinion on the Infinity Primus PC350 to pair with a set of towers as a 3.0 setup for the time being. And isrunning these speakers with my avr ok or would I be better off looking into a new avr and trying to sell the new in box sony.
