Hello to everyone,

Just joined this morning. After 30 years i decided to up grade and get into a hd tv set and a souround sound system. I'll be doing this over the next couple of years. I started with a new 50" plasma tv(panasonic). I'm going to first look at a new av receiver and connect it to some older koss towers. I'll probably slowly go from stero to sourand as money allows.

Sounds like a very sensible plan. I suggest starting with the main speakers first however. The receiver choice will depend on speakers you end up buying. Welcome to the forum.

New Member - Starting over

Hi All!!

I'm a new member who has sold most of his stuff and is out enjoying the hunt for new equipment.

When getting into stereo a number of years ago, I auditioned well over 100 different speakers of all price ranges. I quickly noticed that, even though I have a music degree and I consider my ears pretty good, I couldn't really tell the difference between "Mid-Fi" and "Hi-Fi" until I got to spending 10's of $1,000. After going through many systems, I settled on combinations of NAD and PSB/B&W. I had all used stuff, much of it vintage, and I've decided I want some of the newer NAD gear with a search for new speakers. I'm leaning toward trying Axioms before I decide. Right now, I've moved my wood shop system to my listening room. It is comprised of old JVC bookshelf speakers, that have no business sounding as good as they do, and a Yamaha Stereo RX-596 receiver. While this is not the best sounding system I've had, it serves well and I've had it from the beginning.

My listening room is small and crowded. It's 9x11 and serves as an extra bedroom, office and listening room. My speakers have to be shelf mounted because there's no wall room for speakers.

I watch about 6 movies a year, and the TV is not hooked up to outside reception. I got tired of TV many moons ago. The music, however, is on constantly, so, I'm only interested in stereo, two channel.

Well, that's more than you wanted to know about me. I'm sure I'm going to gain a wealth of knowledge here, and hope to see info on NAD amplification and Axiom speakers.

Sorry Marty,

Didn't mean to hijack your thread, thought I was starting a new one. I guess that's why they call it "Beginners and Audiophytes." I couldn't figure out how to delete or edit the post.

Again, Sorry.
