Welcome. I got my start for this stuff years ago 1986/87 in car audio too. My first care was a Chevy Chevette. I stopped at this brand new car stereo shop about an hour from where I lived just by chance. I struck up a great friendship with the owners (we still talk now and then even today) He set me up with my first system. A HI-Comp head unit and get this... a SPEAKER BOX! I had 2 Alpine 6x9's and 2 7" Alpine subs and an amp from a new fledgling company called Rockford Fosgate! It's funny now because at that time, all that stuff was completely unheard of. I was King at my school for some time. At the end of my junior year, I got a 1984 Dodge Daytona Turbo Z (still my favorite car I've owned) The shop helped me make it into a demo car for them. It was Alpine. I had a huge 7th order box all custom fit with pro 15's and Alpine 3545's mono'd into each one. It's funny, but I also had 2 Alpine 6040's as a center channel. They did a custom perf job on my dash. It's funny that I still remember some of the model numbers after all these years.
A couple years later, they started doing home audio.. with another up and coming company no one ever heard of... Onkyo. This was before Best Buy and Circuit City. I think they were just opening at that time. My first system was an Onkyo 70pro, the same Adcom cd player I still use today, and Adcom amp, and the big BIC Venturis (all of which I still own) I'm gonna dig that stuff out and take some pcs for prosperity sake.
