New to room treatment

My room is 10x10 with an 8ft ceiling and there's a small entrance to the doorway which is 2x4. My setup is on one side of the room while my bed/couch is on the other. This is obviously a less than ideal setup but I'm planning on doing some treatments anyway.

My current setup:
onix sp3 tube integrated
creative x-fi surround USB
pc source (foobar2000 asio)
av123 x-omni's.

Any suggestions for pricing? Diy is definately an option. Also I need help with placement.

Two mains issues, and yes they are very common. The first is the square room, and you're just scrooed there. Oh well. The second is that because the space is modest, you are given little to no freedom in bringing the speakers out (if the SBIR might demand that) and that you yourself are right against the back wall.

So, YMMV, but you can try treating the hell out of the place. How far are you willing to go? You will still have issues, but more is better for sure here, broadband, every corner if you can, and yes that means all 8 "tri-corners", and every other meeting of boundaries. Yes, that's nuts, insane, and maybe no one does that. Just getting a point across.

A thought I have, if only for the moment, is to completely forget all aesthetic and ergonomic sensibilities, and place the speakers and yourself for the best sound, period. I will absolutely guarantee that this positioning will impinge on your happiness and lifestyle. What I then recommend is that you mark these positions, so that you can place the speakers and yourself in this position for when it's time for critical listening, and not so much for background fill.

Without breaking the bank, the best places to treat in a small, square room like that are the front corners and the wall behind the listening position. This will help a little deal with the squareness issue, deal with bass buildup if treatments are thick enough, and help with general broadband bass decay times in the room.

This is about how much space I have. I have very little in this room so I can work with it but I guess I can't change the squareness heh.

Yup. Move the lamp in the right front corner and use broadband bass absorption there. Add thick panels behind your head.

Mmk moving the lamp works. Should I put anything in the corners as far as acoustic panels? Thick panels behind my head eh. Recommendations from GIK? I was thinking maybe two 2x4' panels is all I could fit. All I have behind me is a small twin bed with a huge comforter. Hehe.

Tri Traps will give you the best performance while taking up the least amount of space in the corners.

In a room that size, on the back wall, 244 panels will suffice. If the room was longer and modal issues deeper, we'd switch to Monsters.
