Hi,

I bought new equipment to setup a home theater in my Great Room (18’ x 18’) and I would like to have some feed back on my purchase. I’m new to system setup so I would like to view some recommendations. My devices are:

Speakers: KEF T-205 Package
Blu-Ray: Sony UBP-X800
Receiver: Yamaha RX-A1080
TV: Sony XBR75X900F

Thanks for your feedback!

Thanks for your response! Wife was opposing to big speakers setup in the area and those were the only ones that convinced her, but without compromising some quality audio.

Yes that is called the WAF (wife approval factor) :) Affects audio setups for many.

It can be wielded for good.

Me: I really need some new speakers. Is $X OK?
Wife: Yes.
Me: Found them. These sound great!
Wife: They are hideous
Me: Well, I can get some Salks that sound the same, but it's going to cost more.
Wife: We can raise the budget.

I just want to have your feedback on the image and sound. I had attached a clip from John Wick (4k) and a clip of my wife’s best artist (DVD).

I had notice that the sound coming from the TV through ARC is not as remarkable as the one coming from the Blu-Ray. Do you think I have to check something in the setup? Could it be the HDMI cable?

Additionally, I don’t feel too much bass. I’m not sure if I will have to buy another subwoofer due to the size of the room and how open is on the side, or if I have to check the settings. I have a KEF T2 (0/180 ; +/- 0/6/12 dB). I have it currently setup to 180 and +/-12 dB.

Having issues attaching the videos since they are apparently too big. What are the recommended settings and length to upload an iPhone video?

The sound from bluray can be better then from DVD and ARC from a TV does not support lossless multichannel like you get from most blurays.
Have you tried to increase the volume on sub after doing the auto setup with the reciever? A 10inch sub wont be able to shake your house no matter what but should give some foundation for the rest of the speakers.

Edit: also every source should go into the reciever not the tv itself so ARC shouldnt be needed to use.

The only connection I have to the TV is the ARC HDMI. All other devices are connected to the receiver. Is the setup to increase the volume of the subwoofer in the receiver settings? Subwoofer has no knobs.

Good, thats the best way to connect and by doing that you dont actually use the ARC part.

Yes increase the sub in the receiver settings. Most increase by 3dB to 6dB, so if the receiver has the subwoofer set at -4dB you increase it to -1dB or more towards +2dB. The reason most increase the sub volume is that at normal at home listening levels we are less perceptive of bass compared to midrange or tweeter frequencies so we need more bass to make it sound right.

Also try the phase switch (0/180) and see which setting sounds the best when you sit where you normally sit and watch tv.

Fixed! I changed the phase to 0, recalibrated it and increased the volume to +3 dB. Exceptional sound now!!! Thanks to all that replied!
