new to H/T DTS&DD?

hello,I have read many threads on ht but I think im getting even more confused.lol! 1st system bought.yamaha rx-795a 85 watts x5 5digital audio DA V..speakers. seperately bought theater research sub tr_5200 dual 5 3/4 speakers.the 795a does not have low line {?} speaker wires for sub,so hooked mains to sub then to mains.sounds pretty cool.the 795a is decoding dts [ i think ]but when i switch to it no sound! dd works fine. is this because i dont have active sub to line level out on receiver or do i have set up problem or what?thanks for all of your time. have many more ? but this is a start. hope im at the proper place?sorry if im not.new to all this thanks.

You have to swtich the dvd player (on the movies main set up menu, sometimes located in "langauges") to output DTS as well as switching the receiver to decode DTS.

Sounds like the receiver is looking to decode DTS when you are feeding it a DD signal from your DVD player. Also, the movie you are watching must be encoded in DTS, this info is usually on the movie case somewhere.
