So I was so happy to finally be getting settled into the new house so I could sit on the couch Sunday, have a beer, and just relax. Well I just got Direct TV installed a few days ago and was more than happy with the contect and quality of the service.
All that until I fould out they don't provide my local CBS HD broadcast at all. Only SD, which is just terrible. And they will not have it until the digital change over in Feb. And the following email tells the tale.

I was so excited to have my new service installed and have been very happy with the program quality and selection so far. However, to my dismay upon trying to watch my locally broadcasted NFL games this weekend I noticed that there is no HD option for channel 58. And furthermore it explicitly states that this channel is in the lineup of HD broadcasts. I have not been able to find any information to contradict this channels availability other than the fact that I cannot locate it on your channel directory. I called in and was informed that it would be available Feb 17th after the DTV cutover, but as this is after the football season (the primary reason I want this channel in HD) this if of little or no use to me. This channel is available locally OTA but I see no reason to use this option
as I should be getting this from you and reception from OTA stations varies greatly upon the weather. Please let me know if there is anything you can do and why I was not informed of this initially.

I'm sorry to hear about the confusion this issue had caused. Let me just inform you that the "TV Explorer tab" is a general guide that contains all the channels that we offer (as indicated) and the channels that you will get varies depending on the programming package you have.
Moving forward, the CBS HD that you are referring to is a distant network feed from New York or Los Angeles in areas Since we offer local channels in the Milwaukee WI area Federal law prohibits DIRECTV from providing distant network feeds from New York or Los Angeles. Thus, we cannot provide you with the NY and LA networks especially CBS HD.
For information about what channels are included, visit our web site at directv.com/local, enter your zip code into the Local Channel Lookup box and click on the "search" button. You'll see a list of the local channels that we offer in your area, as well as a link to a printable copy of the channel lineup.

Well is there some sort of programming guide or list that you guys have
available to your customers as the list you have on your website DOES NOT
reflect the actual programming you have available and is very misleading. It
says right on your website with NO disclaimer that you offer CBS in HD as
part of the package I purchased.
