New system recommendations!

Hello All,
This is my first post looking for advice and yes I have read alot from this forum. This site has been a tremendous help, but I would like the opinion from you all.

I am upgrading my very old 2 channel Sony STR-AV770 surround sound stereo with a new 7.1 Yamaha RX-V659 and will be adding a center channel speaker and sub-woofer. My family room is 15' x 20' with a cathedral ceiling.

Existing Equipment:
Infinity SM112 floor speakers for fronts.
Infinity US1 rear speakers mounted on the wall behind the couch.
Sony 42" HD LCD Projection TV (KDFE42A10)

New Equipment (as planned for now):
Yamaha RX-V659 ($300-$400)
Infinity Beta C250 center ($150-$200)
Infinity PS-12 Sub ($250-$350)

Based on the price range of these items would anyone recommend something different?

I feel that I need to stick with an Infinity center speaker to better match that of the other front Infinity speakers or perhaps it doesn't matter since my front Infinities are quite old?

Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Those old Infinity speakers are quite a bit different from the Beta series. Infinity no longer uses the polycell tweeters but instead uses ceramic/aluminum tweeters. The Betas will likely be brighter than the older ones.

Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Depending on your preference for deep and powerful bass, you may want to reconsider this choice but a good sub is a bit more $$.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I think I'm going with the BA VRC center speaker because I heard it at Circuit City and my wife and I liked it. This is a lot more money than we were going to spend, but I can not find anyone local with the Infinity Beta C250.

I'd rather buy something I've heard and liked vs. taking the chance on something I have NOT heard.

The subwoofer choice is still in the selection process.
HSU STF-2 (10") or the BA XB6 (12") or the Velodyne DPS12B (12")?

Boston center

You can probably find a better deal on the boston center online.

Also, add the 10" SVS sub to your list.

Infinity SM 112 impedance?

I read your thread and I thought you would be able to help me.. I have the SM112 and lost the specifications to them.. I bought a new pioneer receiver and it has a function where you can choose the impedance amount. It be most appreciated if you can tell me what the impedance amount is for these speakers...
Thanks in the advance

I would get a different sub

It is good to match the front speakers and the center.

However the sub and surround speakers do not need to be the same timbre and can be from different vendors.

SVS and Hsu make the best subs for the price. I would not get the Infinity sub.

Recommend the SVS PB10-NSD at $429, you will be much happier with the sound.

If that is too much go with a Hsu STF-1 for retail $379 purchase as low as $249.
