I am nearing the process of redoing a room in my house and have the chance to make it into a media room with all walls open and no dropped ceiling yet.
In my living room, I have a 5.1 setup. The speakers are older, but decent I think??? Klipsch RF3 II as fronts, RC7 as a Center, RSW10 as a sub and RS3 II as my surround. I'm looking at the Kef T series the 305s to replace the older Klipsch stuff I have.. They are thinner and take up less room. But I don't want to take a giant step backwards in sound quality for the sake of "thinner" or spend a bunch extra money when the stuff I have is better than what I'd be buying. I just dont know enough about it all.. I don't mind if the quality is comparable, I just dont want to take a step back.

Any help or suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated.. I'm a bit in the dark on these issues as of late.

If you don't have any specific shortcomings that you are hoping to address by upgrading, audition as many systems as possible. Best Buy, high end stores, friends systems, internet direct at home, etc. All this will help you determine what you like and more importantly, what you don't.

Since there at speakers from $5 to $500,000, having a strict budget is the easiest way to create boundaries.

You won't say how you would use this system. If for movies/tv only it might be OK. But if you are going to use it for music, from what I read, I would pass.

I agree, for movies this setup would be ok, but for music I would also pass.

agarwalro is right, go out listen to some speakers, get a budget in mind, tell us what you did and didn't like about which brands and it'll be a much easier process for you and for us trying to help you :D

Would you ever consider an ID company? There are a quite a few great ones out there, just another something to think about.

+1 to everything he just said - get out and listen more. Klipsch aren't everyone taste. They can also become fatiguing after listening for long periods at higher volumes. They don't effect everyone that way but they do me. I'd also give up on the Klipsch subwoofer save up and buy a sub from internat direct subwoofer specialists like SVSounds, Rythmik Subwoofers, or Hsu Research.
