The well known internet direct audio manufacturer SVsound.com has announced a new product in its line. The “Porting in Mobile Packaging” product is a new product that the customer attaches to the rear ports of their SVS subwoofer to lower the tuning frequency of the speaker without having to block any ports. The PiMP product is most likely an attempt by SVS to compete with the new HSU Research HO subwoofer. Questions have been raised as to whether the PiMP is infringing on the HO patents for “bent port” technology. When questioned about this complaint, SVsound released the following statement. “Our PiMP does not infringe on any HO trademarks. The HO uses “bent port” technology while our PiMP uses “curved port” technology. It is clearly not the same thing.”
In a related development, a small group of audio enthusiasts decided to get together for a listening session to perform double-blind testing to settle once and for all which product was superior. Unfortunately, the entire event was thrown into an uproar when an AV123 representative showed up with their new subwoofer EQ product, the Binary Eq-Overtone Tuning CHannel. The event organizer was quoted as saying “The atmosphere was tense enough as it was without having AV123 show up uninvited with the BE-OTCH. I mean, isn’t it hard enough making a fair comparison without having that BE-OTCH stirring up controversy between supporters of the PiMP’s and HO’s.” The event had to be cancelled after police were called. There are no plans at this time for rescheduling the event.
