New Surround Speaker Recommendations

These threads are always fun. lol
I recently came into some tax and bonus money. After everything else has been taken care of, I have ~$1000 to spend on speakers.

I am looking for a pair of bi/di-pole selectable surround speakers for my sides, and direct radiating speakers for my rear.
The room is ~8000 cubic feet, mostly carpeted. The Rear speakers will be about 15-20ft away from the primary sitting positions, and the sides will be about 8-10 feet.
The side speakers cannot be larger than 16" High, and 18" Wide.

I see that EMP Tek has the E55Wi, and matching E5Bi speakers. But being a big room...I haven't heard them, and don't know if they will be enough speaker.

I am not going to change out my fronts at this time.

Any recommendations?
Feel free to ask any questions.

Thank you in advance.

Did some digging, and made a list.
3 of them definitely pushing the budget.

$670 - EMP TEK surround and bookshelf - EMP E55WiR, E5Bi (bi-pole only)
$756 - Fluance XLBP, XL7S (bi-pole only)

$1148 - Verus Surround Dipole/Bipole Speaker Pair, Verus Forte Satellite Speaker Pair
$1236 - Definitive Technology Mythos Gem XL, and Mythos Gem (bi-pole/mono-pole)
$1361 - RBH Sound 44-SE, 41-SE bookshelf (bi/di-pole)

That is quite a distance back - do you want them to sound like they are muted?

Thanks for the suggestion. I will look into them. No. I do not want my rears to sound muted. WAF plays a role with this one. To come closer I would have to have a speaker suspended from a pole in the middle of the room. To get them the same height due to the vaulted ceilings.

I decided to go with Revel Concerta S-12 for the sides, and the M-12 for the backs. What makes me not happy is the fact that I cannot audition or even hear them first. None of the dealers in the Phoenix AZ area have them, or a customer that will allow anyone to come to their home to listen to them. So it'll be a blind purchase. 20% restocking fee, plus shipping if I don't like them. /sigh....on a positive note. I have researched like crazy, and am happy with the decision to get them. /sigh

Is your wife wearing the pants or you? I hope you don't have that Kool Aid smile.

So I showed my wife the attic and where I was going to have to crawl to run the cables. Being 6'9" it was a tight squeeze. Anyways, poof. Here is $500, hire someone. On top of that...she told me we need a new stereo.. poof. There is another $500. Wtf. She's a money hoarder. I think she feels guilty since we are going to France for 2 weeks and spending $8k.

Happy wife, happy life.
Absolutely. You should learn that quick when you get married. Or your going to be miserable.
