Hi - I am a newbie and struck in finding a good sub that pleases me!! I'd appreciate your inputs.

Budget: $1500 max

Replacing: None (auditioned Aperion Bravus 8D, 12D; Martin Logan Dynamo 500D, 700D). 12D came close but didn't satisfy me at low volume levels and functional headaches with Denon 4308CI.

Prospective sub: SVS PB12-Plus - whats worrying me is that I'd end up paying $200 shipping charges if I dont like this!!
(will not consider Velodyne, Polk, Klipsch, Infinity - not subs for my ears)

AVR: Denon 4308CI (over spent under utilized sucker!!)

Watch/Listen: 60% PS3 blu ray movies, 30% audio CD's, 10% HTPC music/movies

Speakers: Fronts - Aperion Intimus 6T's (2); Center - Aperion Intimus 6C (1); Surrounds - Aperion 5DB's (2); Extremely satisfied!!

Players: PS3 60 GB (HD audio via LPCM)

Listening area: 18' x 14' x 10' (~2500 ft^3)

Things that would satisfy me: Tight, punchy bass at low volume levels (< -25db, > -35db master volume on Denon, SPL @75 at listening position); must scare people when needed!!

Thanks a lot!!

Oops .. missed this. Can someone please let me know if it is possible to give full band to my fronts, center from Denon 4308CI?

Also can someone please let me know how does Denon 4308CI compare to Onkyo TX-NR3007?

Thanks!

PB-12 Plus should meet your needs. You didn't say what the room size is.

Sorry, I should have labeled "Listening area:" as room size.

Living room is 2500 ft^3 that opens into kitchen via 3 ft opening and kitchen is 12'x12'x10' (~ 1400 ft^3)

Listening area doesn't count with a sub, it "sees" the whole area, so you have to count both. Though yours is semi-isolated, so it isn't quite the same as a single large room. I'd still say the Plus would be the way to go. Shoot SVS an email or call them and see what they recommend for that size of room. They're good about that sort of thing.

SVS is great! You will be happy with the sub...Too bad you couldn't save a lil extra and get the PB13 Ultra. I ordered one yesterday and it was shipped today. You might want to call them and ask if they could work something out with you so u could get the PB13....Doesn't hurt to ask! Either way, you will be getting an awesome subwoofer. I have yet to hear anything negative about the quality of their speakers/subs...and their customer service is the best in the business. (No, I'm not a rep) LOL

The Plus obviously isn't as good as the Ultra, but the Plus is definitely not an average sub by any means. I am sure you will enjoy it.

This will be my 2nd PB-13...the 1st was lost in when my house was struck by lightening:mad:.. So I already know that I love that sub. I will probably run dual subs (PB13 of course) in the near future. As far as the rest of my ht, that was also destroyed. So I ordered the SVS M-series (Towers, center and bookshelves). My reciever is the Denon 4310ci. I should have my entire ht setup by thursday, march 18 :) It's like Christmas all over again.

I wish I still had it...I threw it away (j/k). Unfortunately, the insurance company took possession of all of my damaged property. I would had the sub fixed and run duals for the price of 1  If only they would have forgotten.

Ouch .. but hey its only three more days!!

How do you like your Denon? Do you have first hand experience of comparing Denon to Onkyo? (esp. 4308/4310 CI to 1107)

Just days away :) I haven't received the the 4310ci yet. I've had the 1508 CI, the 2808ci and liked the 2808ci. I didnt care for the 1508 because audio would not pass through HDMI  Wonder what they were thinking there??? I had to use a optical line for the audio. 2808ci was pretty good, but it did not have enough HDMI inputs/outputs. Im excited about the 4310....has everything that I will need. I couldnt justify the extra 1k for the 4810. I will tell you what I think once I get the 4310...just days away

Great .. I will wait for your response.

I didnt like Denon's attitude that customers have to pay $100 extra for that feature upgrade package after shelling out $2000 ...

Received my M-series speakers today. Getting my 4310ci tomorrow and my sub this friday :) Cant wait. I couldnt help myself...i hooked up the LCR up to my crappy 1508...They sounded awesome! Can't believe the detail....I might actually write up a review and take photos of my setup in the near future. I remember when I previously upgraded the 1508 to the 2808, and what a difference (for the better) I cant imagine how they will sound with the better avr and eq'd.

Nice. Denon 4310CI will definitely set new standards in your HT.

Yesterday, I picked up Aperion 2x4B's (rears) to upgrade my step up to 7.1 and waiting eagerly for SVS PB12-Plus to arrive this morning.

This is my audio setup: Denon 4308CI + Fronts: Aperion 2x6T, Center: Aperion 1x6C, Side: Aperion 2x5DB, Rear: Aperion 2x4B + SVS PB12-Plus

Congrats....when you get your sub today, your ht will sound like a completely new system. I think subs make that big of a difference. Thats why its good to spend the extra money and get a nice one :) IMHO of course.

The waiting part sucks!

Thanks. I guess I have to wait until tomorrow :(. Sure, the waiting parts really sucks.

Hmm .. I just got a call from R+L carriers (never heard of them before) and they say their "dock is full" today and they can only deliver tomorrow in odd times 11 am - 3 pm. SVS has to think about customer friendly delivery solutions.

FedEx and UPS are very accomodating - but thats just my experience with those carriers. The UPS guy that delivers in our area is very friendly and he has helped me carry some heavy things that I ordered online.
