So my dad bought some brand new Klipsch Icon tower speakers. They were at 50% off brand new we jumped on the deal. Here are the speakers, Klipsch - Icon Dual 8" 2-Way Floor Speaker (Each) - KF-28 My main concern now is what amp or stereo receivers would you guys recommend for these speakers? this set up would be just for music listening so i dont really need 1000 features. Just a good receiver or amp to listen to pure music. How many watts per channel does the Amp need to be to make these speakers sound at its very best? im new at this so excuse me if i bombard you all with questions! Any suggestion is very much appreciated! Thanks!

If your goal is strictly stereo with no futur plans of going into to home theater, then an integrated amp such as these will do.

Integrated Amplifiers - Yamaha - Canada

If you want a stereo receiver which is basically an integrated amp+radio tuner built into one chassis, then look here..

Stereo Receivers - Yamaha - Canada

The above two links are for integrated amps/receivers which are strictly analog. If you want to add a powered subwoofer later on, you may need to look at receivers with some digital processing capabilities for bass management such as this excellent unit by Outlaw.. Although the DSP is strcilty not required for adding a sub, it makes it much easier to integrate a sub with your speakers if the recevier has DSP bass management capabilities

RR2150 Stereo Receiver

or another good one offered by HK

Harman Kardon - HK 3490 - 2 x 120W Stereo Receiver

Hey thank you very much for the suggestions! Believe it or not those speakers are putting out some serious bass and my dad is no bass head at all so i doubt he'll ever want to add a sub to them. I Like those Yahama suggestions, i had even already been looking at some of those. One question, Does it matter how many Watts the amp is for these big speakers?

You don't need a ton of power for those. I'd just pick up an inexpensive Denon AVR-1612 or AVR-1712. Economies of manufacturing scale make them a better bargain than integrated amps or stereo only receiver. It also gives you the flexibility to expand to 5.1 later.

Hey guys, I posted a thread in the newbies section there but this is kinda my question also. I have 8 160 watt speakers, 6 inside and 2 outside, and I'm just wondering what to use to power them, amp or receiver, and what kinds? I was told by one guy to get a receiver and get impedance matching speaker selector, but I just want to see the general consensus. This is more for a sound system than a theater. They're in a garage and I'll be putting a sub in the system. Also, I would like to have t.v capabilities just for watching hockey or whatever.

Klipsch are really efficient speakers so it doesn't take much power to make them sing loud. However, a more powerful amp will alllow you more freedom of choice on new speaker purchases should you get tired of the current speakers. You won't have to worry so much driving low efficient low impedance speakers. It all depends on your budget.

Although a HT receiver may be cheaper, I find that the build quality of mid line integrated amp is better than its HT receiver counterparts. If you are sure that this will remain a stereo system only, then get an integrated amp as they will last you many years.

with 98 db/sensitivity you could drive them with nearly anything.

Yes im sure this will always remain a stereo system only. We rarely watch movies... music is our main concern. What tube amps are recommended?
