I just set up my first ever system and im having an issue. Here is my setup

PS3 via HDMI
Comcast HD DVR via HDMI
hooked up to
Yamaha RX -V663
hooked up via HDMI to
Samsung 56" DLP
with Infinity TSS 1200 5.1 with extra pair of Sat TSS 1200 to make it 7.1

Now when i watch Spierman3 on blu ray the reciever does not show it to be playing True HD. Ive read through the intstruction manual and can't figure out how to make it out put in True HD. Is there a particular mode i should have it in? Can someone help please :(

I'm not familiar with HDMI technology as of yet, so I am going to take a wild stab in the dark.

From what I understand previous generations of HDMI cables may or may not have been verified for full HDMI 1080P pass through, although they were marketed to the consumer as fully functional... perhaps someone who is familiar with HDMI tech can enlighten us if any old spec cables limited audio transmission in any way

How old are your cables? I only ask because they are the one item you didn't include on your list of gear.

Edit: on a second read through you seem to be confident that it's just the receiver that will not cooperate. I'm sorry, I know nothing of yamaha receivers, but good luck. I hope someone can help.

PS3 audio output

To get the new audio formats, you need an HDMI cable from the PS3 to the receiver and another one from the receiver to the TV. I beleive that the PS3 outputs the HD sountrack as lossless PCM. Does your receiver show LPCM or something similar?

Unless you have very long runs (30-50') I wouldn't worry about high end HDMI cables or certification. I am still using the free cable that came with my DVD player.

I have hdmi going from the PS3 to the receiver and then HDMI going from the receiver to the TV. They are 1.3 and only about 6-10 feet long. the PCM icon lights up when im watching the movie. I can get it to show PLIIxby switching to a certain decoder. But i cant get it to output True HD

Change the audio output on the PS 3 to Linear PCM, then it will work. You probably have it set to bitstream now. The PS 3 can't bitstream TrueHD.
