New room, old sr5007: looking 5.2.(4?)

First off. Amp choice. The monolith 5 is twice as expensive as the outlaw 5000?!? What's up with that. I hear great things about both, but I didn't realize they were so far apart in price. Do you guys have any opinions on these, or others?

The goal is to drive the L/C/R and surrounds off better power of the amp. With the AVR taking care of the Atmos stuff if I get there. In this case a new AVR is needed.

So, with a solid 5 channel amp, I've heard good things about the Marantz sr7012 and the Denon x4400h. These are very similar in almost every regard, but I have to lean marantz because I know it well... I'm going to have test these out. Are there any other good suggestions for a 5.2.4 ready system in a complicated room.

Thanks

Just different amps. Monolith 5 is a 200wpc (8 ohm full range) and 300wpc (4 ohm full range) for $1300; the Outlaw 5000 120wpc (8 ohm full range) and 180wpc (4 ohm full range) for $650. Whether the Outlaw is a better deal somewhat depends what wpc you want. I'd use either amp happily, they've both tested quite well and seem to have quite a few happy users. I'd just get the Monolith 7 for $200 more, better value in that sense.

You could do something like three Crown XLS 1502s for 6 channels of amplification (300wpc 8 ohm, 525wpc 4 ohm, 775wpc 2ohm, different basis but borne out in bench testing at least into 8 ohm, where it did 336wpc in 8 ohm) for $1200 or so. It's a pro style amp but would work well. I've had several of these (altho the previous model, the 1500) for years and am quite happy with them.

Those two models from D&M are fairly similar, I'd get whichever I got the better deal on.

The RX-A2070 is a good alternative, but it can only process up to 9 channels, and its street price tends to be higher. It is supposedly more reliable, though I believe if you put a fan or two on top of the Marantz, the 3 year warranty should have you well protected.

Thank you!

I'll add the Yamaha to the list as well.

I have the RX-A2060 and I really like it. It’s one year older than the RX-A2070 but mostly the same. :)
