Wow, looks like the upcoming Samsung BD-UP5000 will be the new Reference HD Player: Blu-ray + HDDVD + TrueHD & DTS-HD MA Internal Decoding & Bitstream + Ethernet + HDMI 1.3 + 7.1 Analog Outputs for PCM, TrueHD, DTS-HD MA + Silicon Optix HQV 1080p Upscaling + all that other stuff for a Retail price of $1,000!

Forget about Denon's & Marantz's $2,000 BD or Onkyo's $1,000 HDDVD. This is it.

If this isn't vaporware(because we all know Samsung likes to announce vaporware), it could very well destroy any other combo drive competition.

Here is a review and test of the unit:

Looks impressive. May have to start saving now and hope for a nice winter sale.

That looks very promising.
Yeah, now I'm trying to think really hard what to do with my Panasonic BD & Toshiba HDDVD players.:D
Probably use as backup.

What price would it have to be before you would take the plunge?

I'm going to buy the upcoming $400 PS3, so I guess it would have to be right around that price for me to buy it.

I don't think the PS3 will have DTS-MA, but I guess that's not a deal breaker, huh?

Crutchfield has the BD-UP5000 listed in its lastest catalog for $799. :D But it is not on their website yet.

WOW, and they are not the lowest out there:D
Looks like they may have a good market for it.

From what I've read, looks like the new Panasonic DMP-BD30 only has 5.1 analog out (not 7.1) & only DTS-MA & TrueHD via bitstream--no internal decoding.
New Samsung BD-UP5000 is still the leader.

That sounds pretty sweet, especially when there are three ways to get the HD surround formats.:D

Yeah. I bet the Samsung BD-UP5000 combo will be $500 by next Summer. It's already listed at $800 on some sites.

And we are still away from the frenzy at the winter holiday seasons:D And, maybe afterwards, they will drop even more to clear them out?

I doubt it as it is now looking like at least Christmas before they even hit the shelf. Mid to late Dec is now the expected arrival time:(

Is this player Blu-ray profile 1.1 at least? I wonder how long it'll take to load discs? Isn't it pretty common for these Hi-def players to take a l--o--n--g time to load? :(

Yeah, it's definitely Profile 1.1 at least. From what I've read, the load time is relatively quick compared to the first generation, but still not as fast as a regular dvd player. My current Panasonic seems like 100% faster than my Toshiba HD-XA1 and the Sony 1st Generation BD.

The only 2 things the Samsung BD-UP5000 won't do are SACD & DVD-A. HQV
Blu-ray, HD DVD, Profile 1.1, HDMI 1.3, TrueHD & DTS-HD MA Internal Decoding, 7.1 Analog Output, Reon-HQV 1080p Upscaling---the lists of features goes on and on. Should be awesome. Who would even buy a $2,000 Denon BD or a $1,000 Onkyo HD DVD?
