New Receiver

Looking for some advice here. My onkyo txnr708 just took a **** on me and im about to purchase a new receiver. Was gonna look to you guys for recommendations. I myself have been looking at marantz. I was comparing the top 3 models and if there are some real marantz fans here, maybe you can better explain the difference between the 7-6-5007 models. I am in no way below listening to others favorites. I will be pushing a 5.1 Ascend acoustics CMT series with the new amp.

I appreciate any help.

What happened to the 708 please be specific. Is it a no sound problem?

yeah no sound and the video will not go full stream. Also the network controls go out the window.

No pre amp combos. I figure the marantz and onkyo had more then enough to push the ascend acoustics.

im not gonna lie, i dont know as much as i want to about the combos.

I have the Marrantz av7005 and am fairly happy with it . It's a 5.1 proccessor . The other models above it simply provide you with more output processing options like 7.1 and 11.1 .
I've had one issue with it , when in the network mode at some point I get a green flashing on my flat screen as I'm changing songs. By resetting its internal processors it seems to fix it, but temporarily . Other than that its all good . Great sound and a nicer GUI than my yamaha .
i agree with the reviews , the ir sensor could e a little better as I find I have too aim at the av7005 a little more accurately than you should have to .

The AV7005 is a great preamp, we've had one in our showroom here for a while and just replaced it with the 7701 which is the newer version. Depending on your budget, I'd also consider (for separates) a stand alone receiver with a 5 or 7 channel power amp. I recently did this and have been very happy with the results. I picked up a Onkyo809 on amazon at a crazy price and paired it with a 7 channel power amp I had. (sherbourn, but same guts as Emotiva)

Colin, I"m no expert but that sounds like an HDMI cable going bad. Have you tried a new one or a different output like optical?

On what you asked I looked at those receivers but have a Denon 3312 coming tomorrow so I guess that's my opinion

I pulled the trigger on the SR7007. Now, like with the onkyo, is my 5.1 surround or surround back?
