I need a little advice on how to do this. I have a digital cable box/DVR and a Tivo box.
The cable box has a digital coaxial out and the Tivo box does not. I would like to watch movies on cable in SS therefore I would have to use the digital coaxial cable....BUT....The cable box goes through the Tivo, then out to an audio source. I am a little new at this, hope I explained it ok. What should I do?

So you have an audio source connected IN to the Tivo? Why?

I think you have it backwards. I presume you need the cable box to decrypt encrypted channels and pay channels so you want the RF cable from the wall to the cable box IN and then another RF cable from the OUT of the cable box to the Tivo. Then if you connect the digital coax from the cable box to the receiver you will get your DD from the cable and the TV will be able to record the same thing the cable box is receiving.

Maybe I'm thinking about it too hard. The Tivo has regular RCA cables going out to the TV. Since I don't have a HDTV, I am going to have to use S-Video cable's where I can. I assume that I need to run a S-Video from the cable box--Tivo box--Receiver--TV and the same with the Red and White RCA cable's.?. I guess where I am getting confused is this...The cable box/DVR will have to go to a separate set of inputs on the Receiver. If so then want you have to change the input selection on the receiver to watch cable and select another input to watch something on the Tivo? Does that make any since at all?

What I don't understand is why you have both a DVR in the cable box AND a Tivo. They do the same thing unless you want to be able to watch one channel while recording another and maybe you prefer the Tivo interface to the DVR.

So what is it that you want to be able to do? Do you need the cable box to unencrypt the scrambled channels or would you be fine with the Tivo only being able to record the channels that don't require the cable box? With the output of one going to the other, they would both only be able to record the same channel. Forget about the video to the TV for now, that part is easy.

The beauty of a receiver is that it can switch everythng for you and you would only need one video connection to the TV.

I just haven't taken the old DVR back yet to the cable co, that's all. I'll figure it out when the receiver gets here in a few days. Thanks for the help though.

Once you decide what you want to be able to do, I'll be able to help you set it all up.

Thanks, I'll probably need it. It will be a week or so before everything comes in. Take Care,

I have the same setup...I have a HD DVR from the cable company and a SD Tivo Series2, both of them are hooked up. There are two points that we need to understand in order to hook everything up correctly:

First, if you run video through the Tivo but audio bypasses the Tivo, you will notice a time lag between the video and audio. This is because the Tivo processes the signal and records it to the harddrive, which allows you to rewind. Therefore, the audio will be about a half-second ahead of the video. Therefore, you either have to run BOTH audio and video through the Tivo or NEITHER video nor audio through the Tivo.

Second, try this. Your TV probably has an audio out, either digital or standard RCA-based. This allows you to run a video/audio feed from the cable box to the TV and a video/audio feed from the Tivo and watch them independently. But, the receiver gets the audio from the TV audio OUT so you never have to change it.
