I just got my self a nice receiver from yamaha,i'v never used their products before or their YPAO setup mic.
This last week i ran the setup, first i chose which EQ that i wanted so i picked "Flat". After every thing was done,i then played some blu rays to break in the new receiver. I notice that the sound is some what dull lacking in mid range. I'v been a long time of mcacc from pioneer, the pioneer receiver that i had was full / rich sounding with good mids and highs etc.

What's the best EQ mode for mostly movies?
Flat
Through (none)
Front etc.
Don't get me wrong,i love this unit it stay's cool and quiet it's just missing some mid range.!

Only you can decide what's "best". Try them all out and make your choice. It can be a painful chore or hours of fun, it all depends on your perspective.

Personally I have Pio elite. I use direct for music and mcacc for movies.

I have owned yammy in past and those are also top-notch. Be sure you don't have some DSP mode turned on though!

Use the YPAO EQ calibration. It works quite well. If you do not like how it sounds, you can always decide not to use it. Peace and goodwill.

Before running YPAO go into the "basic set up menu and manually set all your speakers to small. In the YPAO run menu, chose skip setting speaker size and re run it. Let me know how it works out.
