I was pleasently suprised when browsing the DVD-A / SACD section at bestbuy this evening. I found Porcupine Tree's New Release "Deadwing" (DVD-A/DTS) released on May 11th. I downloaded the song Shallow from iTunes a while back and I must say I really liked what I heard. So I was anxious to get home and give it a spin.

Well I have to say that so far it doesn't disappoint! I can honestly say there isn't a bad song on here. A few songs that stand out in my mind are:

Shallow
Halo
Open Car

Both DTS and DVD-A sound very good!

Crap! I bought Deadwing on CD! I've never seen it one DVD-A and didn't know it existed. Guess I'll have to buy it- again.

I've been listening to the Deadwing cd for almost a couple months now and am impressed. I have yet to order the DVD-A but will do so soon. I'm not surprised that the surround versions sound quite good; has Elliot Scheiner ever been involved in a project that wsn't superb? ;-)

How does it compare to "In Absentia"?

Less harsh sounding, better bass response, though IMO the musical content isn't as compelling....

Overall, I like it better. My favorite songs on In Absentia ("Blackest Eyes" and "Trains") I do like better than my favorite song on Deadwing ("Arriving Somewhere But Not Here"), but it's all relative (I still really, really like "Arriving Somewhere But Not Here"). Both albums are similar, if you like one I don't see how you won't like the other. Personal opinion and all :).

Have I been living in a cave?
Where did these guys come from?
I was first heard Blackest Eyes on a B&W demo disc that came in the mail.
Nice song, exellent 5.1 sound. I'll be looking for more from them.

I have both on DVD-A (In Absentia & Deadwing), and I do enjoy them equally. If you like one, I think it's really worth getting the other. :)

I am a huge Porcupine Tree fan myself, and just can't wait to see some concert DVD finally available.

Demetrio.
