I bought a pair of polk rti8 towers and two days later I lost the tweeters on both speakers. Just after I lost the highs the reciever shut off. It's a yamaha rx-v 1500. The volume was at +6.5. I also have a polk sub the 303

Wha, Wha, What. +6.5. Can you still hear? If 0 does not do it for you, time to upgrade! ;)

Those "db" ratings do not accurately reflect the volume level. But at the same time.... +6.5 going to be darn loud. Sounds like you are clipping the amp and destroying the speakers, which is basically confirmed by the receiver shutting down.

The only reason for the receiver to shut down is clipping or overheating.
